Rivercrest and Walnut Ridge are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Rivercrest Colts will venture away from home to square off against the Walnut Ridge Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row dating back to last season, Rivercrest turned things around against Manila on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 16-1 win. The Colts' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Katelyn Ostendorf was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Rivercrest got a massive performance out of Emme Weldon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those RBI were Weldon's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addison Johnson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Rivercrest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Walnut Ridge had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Mustangs.
Ashtyn Bradley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Chloe Newberry was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Woods, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Rivercrest's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Walnut Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Rivercrest has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Walnut Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rivercrest came out on top in a nail-biter against Walnut Ridge in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rivercrest since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
