League recap: Washington-Wilkes tops Union County to extend winning streak

AA Region 8 recap Oct. 3, 2012

Washington-Wilkes extended the longest winning streak in AA Region 8 this week by beating Union County, 36-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Tigers.

Jefferson moved up to 132 from 169 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Dragons were able to make the jump by beating Greene County 62-26.

Rabun County's Wes Holcombe and Charlie Woerner have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Holcombe has thrown for 536 yards this season, while Woerner has eight catches for 225 yards. Oglethorpe County's Kendrick Presley leads the league in rushing yards with 332.

A big matchup in AA Region 8 this week will be when Jefferson takes on Washington-Wilkes. The Dragons are in fifth place, while the Tigers are in first place.

Washington-Wilkes took down the Panthers 36-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
