Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Murray). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Granger Lancers a 13-0 shutout on Friday. The Spartans have beaten the Lancers the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Lancers has come to flipping the script.
The result came thanks to Bode Gladhart's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Conner Whitehead was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March. Baylor Chappell also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Murray kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Murray's record is now 10-2-1. As for Granger, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Murray will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Taylorsville at 3:30 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Granger, they will head out to square off against Hunter at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.38 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
