Sumter won the last time they faced Lugoff-Elgin, and Araina Ross did her part to make sure it happened again. The Sumter Gamecocks simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat the Lugoff-Elgin Demons 62-27 thanks in part to Ross, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.
The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Dantzler, who posted four points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (three).
Lugoff-Elgin's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mia Negron, who had four points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Erin Manuel, who put up no points in addition to 16 rebounds and three blocks. Negron is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Sumter has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they moved to 8-8 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Sumter will venture away from home to face off against West Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they will welcome Blythewood at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Blythewood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Lugoff-Elgin likes a good challenge.
