Volleyball Recap: Xavier Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Xavier kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 3-1 to the Iona Prep Gaels. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Gaels recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Iona Prep scored at least 18 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18.

Iona Prep can attribute much of their success to Jacob Chiu, who had nine digs and two aces. Those nine digs gave Chiu a new career-high.

Coming up, Xavier will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Xaverian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Iona Prep, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will face off against Salesian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
