Baseball Recap: Quapaw Takes a Loss

Quapaw was the 5-4 winner over Afton when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Wildcats fell 18-15 to the Eagles on Thursday. Even though they lost, the Wildcats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Jace Gregory made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off three runs, three doubles, and three RBI while going 4-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Quapaw's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-3 (and 4-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Koronis, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Quapaw and nudges their season record down to 11-15. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Afton, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-13.

Coming up, Quapaw will face off against Jay at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Afton, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Nowata at 3:00 p.m.
