Basketball Game Preview: Monroe Hornets vs. Harrison Wildcats

The Monroe Hornets will head out to face off against the Harrison Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Monroe didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They rang in the new year with a 50-42 win over Edgewood on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Meanwhile, Harrison had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 43-33 victory over Goshen on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 658th, while the Warriors are ranked 216th).

Monroe better focus on containing Tucker Ward and Brody Mumfrey as the pair were huge in Harrison's win. Ward posted 14 points along with seven boards and four steals, while Mumfrey went 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Marx, who had four points and six boards.

Monroe's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Harrison, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.

Monroe couldn't quite finish off Harrison in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 and fell 55-53. Thankfully for Monroe, Luke Rogers (who went 6 of 15 on his way to 25 points and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
