Softball Game Preview: Westwood Redhawks vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers

The Westwood Redhawks will square off against the Andrew Jackson Volunteers at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Westwood will be strutting in after a victory while Andrew Jackson will be coming in after a loss.

Westwood headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but Ridge View let them put that streak behind them. Everything went Westwood's way against Ridge View on Tuesday as Westwood made off with a 13-2 win. The Redhawks haven't had any issues with the Blazers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Westwood got a great performance from Pettway Carolina as she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

On the hitting side, Griffin Ella was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Ridgeway Marguerite was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Andrew Jackson suffered their closest defeat since March 20, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Parkwood by a score of 6-4. Volunteers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Wolf Pack since on Thursday.

This is the second loss in a row for Andrew Jackson and nudges their season record down to 2-2. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Westwood, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-7.
