Basketball Recap: Sickles Takes Down Steinbrenner in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Sickles had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 60-51 win over the Steinbrenner Warriors on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Gryphons: when they faced off against the Warriors last Tuesday, they had to take a 56-45 defeat.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sickles to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jadyn Watts, who shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. The contest was Watts' 17th in a row with at least 18 points. Kelsey Sharpe was another key player, putting up 17 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.

Sickles was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steinbrenner only racked up six assists.

Steinbrenner's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Adams, who posted 14 points and six steals, and Naomi Parker, who put up 14 points and six boards. What's more, Adams also racked up four rebounds, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarah Coble, who had five points and 13 boards.

Sickles is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 38.8% in those games and 24.6% outside of them. As for Steinbrenner, their defeat dropped their record down to 23-3.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Sickles will challenge Sunlake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Sickles' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Steinbrenner, they will take on Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Steinbrenner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.8 points per game this season.
