Recap: Port Charlotte Pirates vs. Lemon Bay Manta Rays

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Port Charlotte Pirates ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lemon Bay 64-62. The victory was just what Port Charlotte needed coming off of a 62-41 defeat in their prior game.

Despite the loss, Lemon Bay still got an impressive performance from Cooper Benedict, who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Benedict has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mayson Roberts, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.

Port Charlotte pushed their record up to 12-9 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Lemon Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Port Charlotte will head out on the road to take on Venice at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Venice will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while Port Charlotte is ranked 157th). As for Lemon Bay, Lemon Bay and LaBelle will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully LaBelle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
