Franklin starts season with defeat at home

Franklin couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell victim to a tough 22-1 defeat at the hands of the Ravenwood Raptors on Tuesday. The loss means Franklin is still on the hunt for the season's first 'W'.

For Ravenwood's part, they got a great performance from Linley Pittman as she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Pittman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive pitching appearances. Kristen Kanavy came in to relieve Pittman and was airtight, giving up no runs, hits or walks in her one inning pitched.

At the plate, Winter Melendez was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Melendez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stolen at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Ella Jurosky was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

The win was the third in a row for Ravenwood, bringing their record for this year to 3-2.

Franklin will head out on the road to take on Centennial at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ravenwood, they will be playing at home against Independence at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ravenwood will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
