Preview: Peoria Christian Chargers vs. Roanoke-Benson Rockets
Peoria Christian and Roanoke-Benson are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Peoria Christian Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Roanoke-Benson Rockets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Peoria Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 541 points over their last nine matches.
Peoria Christian pushed their score all the way to 57 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 70-57 to Calvary. Peoria Christian has struggled against Calvary recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Peoria Christian had strong showings from Malachi Persinger, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists, and Gavin Walder, who scored 24 points. Walder continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lane Hunt, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Roanoke-Benson came into Friday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Lowpoint-Washburn by a score of 54-44 on Friday. The win was just what Roanoke-Benson needed coming off of a 69-46 loss in their prior contest.
Peoria Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Roanoke-Benson, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-19.
Everything came up roses for Peoria Christian against Roanoke-Benson in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 72-41 victory. Will Peoria Christian repeat their success, or does Roanoke-Benson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
