Preview: Ashford Yellowjackets vs. Carroll Eagles
The Ashford Yellowjackets will head out on the road to take on the Carroll Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ashford has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 68-31, which was the final score in Ashford's tilt against the Eagles on Friday. While losing is never fun, Ashford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while the Eagles are ranked 130th).
Meanwhile, Carroll had just enough and edged the Bulldogs out 44-42 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Carroll.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carroll to victory, but perhaps none more so than Michael Culver, who scored 13 points along with two steals and two blocks. Culver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Pruitt, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Ashford has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Carroll, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.
Ashford came up short against the Eagles in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 65-60. Can Ashford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
