Baseball Game Preview: St. Mary Tigers vs. Red River Bulldogs

The St. Mary Tigers will head out to square off against the Red River Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Monday, St. Mary didn't have quite enough to beat Holy Savior Menard and fell 4-3.

Meanwhile, Red River posted their biggest win since April 13, 2024 on Monday. They blew past Zwolle 8-1. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won three in a row.

John Dickey and Eli Murphy were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Dickey tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Murphy struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). What's more, Dickey also racked up four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Dickey went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs, while Murphy scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Red River let Jake Pierce and Hunter Tingle loose on the outfield. Pierce scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Tingle scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Jayden Stewart was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

St. Mary suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Red River when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can St. Mary avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
