Football Recap: Ripon Comes Up Short Despite Elena Vandernakker's Big Defensive Game

Saturday just wasn't the day for Ripon's offense. They took a 7-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mariposa County Grizzlies on Saturday. The Indians' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Even if they lost, Ripon's defense still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. It was truly a group effort as Elena Vandernakker, Aubree Fleming, and Kimberly Lira picked up two apiece. Ripon is 4-1 when Lira posts one or more sacks, but 1-3 otherwise.

Ripon's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Mariposa County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ripon will welcome Stagg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mariposa County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Torres at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
