Baseball Recap: Wynford Wins Going Away Against Plymouth

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Calvert, Wynford was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Plymouth Big Red with a sharp 9-1 victory. The Royals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Big Red, too.

Drew Pope spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Miller, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The win snapped Wynford's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-10 record. As for Plymouth, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wynford will face off against Mohawk at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Royals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Plymouth, they will take on Ridgemont at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
