Basketball Recap: Classical Academy Takes a Loss

Classical Academy played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 73-34 loss at the hands of the Chula Vista Spartans. The Caimans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-18.

Despite the loss, Classical Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Drew Davis posted ten points.

Elijah Gillespie continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chula Vista, putting up 25 points. Those 25 points gave Gillespie a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Giovanni Contreras, who scored 14 points.

Classical Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Chula Vista, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5.

Classical Academy will head out to take on Del Lago Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Classical Academy is facing Del Lago Academy at the right time seeing as Del Lago Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Chula Vista, they will welcome San Pasqual at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
