Baseball Game Preview: Wyoming Valley West Spartans vs. Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans

The Wyoming Valley West Spartans will square off against the Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Wyoming Valley West is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Dallas just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 11-1 to the Mountaineers.

Wyoming Valley West saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Damien Eastman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Eastman hit this season.

Meanwhile, Greater Nanticoke Area lost a heartbreaker to Crestwood when they met back in April of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. The Trojans took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Comets. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Comets recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Greater Nanticoke Area's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Wyoming Valley West, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Greater Nanticoke Area's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Wyoming Valley West has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Greater Nanticoke Area, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Wyoming Valley West keep running through batters, or will the Trojans buck the trend?

Wyoming Valley West skirted past Greater Nanticoke Area 5-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
