Soccer Recap: Santa Clara Takes a Loss

Santa Clara was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mountain View Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 295th, while the Spartans are ranked 25th).

Santa Clara's goal came courtesy of Ahmad Ayadi, who's now up to four this season.

Santa Clara's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Mountain View, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

Coming up, Santa Clara will host Homestead at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mountain View, they will head out on the road to face off against Los Altos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Los Altos is on a five-game streak of home wins, Mountain View a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the pitch.
