The Chesterfield Golden Rams are taking a road trip to challenge the Buford Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Chesterfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Chesterfield came up short against Anson and fell 7-3. The Golden Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Brody Banasiewicz was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.
Meanwhile, Buford entered their tilt with Chesterfield on Tuesday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Golden Rams an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jackson Sellers made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Hunter Mills and Austin Catledge did most of the damage at the plate: Mills scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Catledge got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave Mills a new career-high in RBI (three). Easton Rollings was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Buford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.
Buford pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.7 runs. As for Chesterfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Chesterfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Buford struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chesterfield suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Buford in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can Chesterfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
