Softball Game Preview: Danbury Hatters vs. New Canaan Rams

Danbury has gone 8-2 against New Canaan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Hatters will host the Rams at 12:00 p.m. Danbury will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

While Danbury didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Pomperaug 17-6 on Friday. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Hatters this season.

Jacqueline Marks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Marks was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophie O'Connell, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Analia Duran, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Danbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, New Canaan won against Guilford on Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Rams walked away with a 7-4 victory over New Milford. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.

Danbury pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for New Canaan, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Danbury came up short against New Canaan in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Hatters avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
