Baseball Recap: Powell County Find Success

Powell County proved they can win big on Friday (they won by six) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fleming County Panthers, sneaking past 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since April 22nd.

Carter Poe made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Powell County is 3-1 when Poe posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-15 otherwise.

In other batting news, Dylan Carter was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Powell County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-16 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Fleming County, they dropped their record down to 15-14 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coming up, Powell County will face off against Mason County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fleming County, they will square off against West Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
