Softball Preview: Slidell Tigers vs. Belle Chasse Cardinals
The Slidell Tigers will be playing at home against the Belle Chasse Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Slidell's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Belle Chasse's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
After a string of three wins, Slidell's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Destrehan. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, Slidell couldn't push the score so high this time.
Bree McCleary was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. McCleary was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
McCleary wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Whittington, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Slidell didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with ten strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Destrehan only tossed four.
Meanwhile, Belle Chasse stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They blew past Fontainebleau 16-1. Winning may never get old, but Belle Chasse sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Slidell's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 25-7. As for Belle Chasse, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
