Basketball Recap: Elizabeth Comes Up Short

Elizabeth has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They had to suffer through a 70-27 loss at the hands of the Marquez Gladiators. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marquez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elyjah Staples, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Staples is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cravon Charles, who went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Elizabeth's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4. As for Marquez, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Elizabeth and Sotomayor will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Marquez, they will venture away from home to take on Cabrillo at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Cabrillo's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups.
