The Whitney Wildcats will head out to challenge the Granite Bay Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Whitney 3, Granite Bay 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Granite Bay will be up against a hot Whitney team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Whitney put the hurt on Folsom with a sharp 9-0 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Whitney got a great performance from Taylor Cordell as she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Alyssa Flindt was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Tylie Kitchen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Whitney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive games.
Granite Bay hadn't beaten Rocklin on the road since April 27, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. Granite Bay won by a run and slipped past Rocklin 2-1.
Paetynn Snobar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sami McKown, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season.
Granite Bay now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Whitney, their record is now 8-4.
Granite Bay's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Whitney hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. It's a different story for Granite Bay, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Whitney's hitters?
Whitney skirted past Granite Bay 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Whitney since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
