Football Recap: Thomas Jefferson Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Avonworth

Thomas Jefferson faced Avonworth in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Jaguars were dealt a 41-14 defeat at the hands of the Antelopes. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Tyler Eber, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Having lost for the first time this season, Thomas Jefferson fell to 3-1. As for Avonworth, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thomas Jefferson will challenge West Mifflin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars will be up against the Titans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.25 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Avonworth, they will face off against Hopewell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Antelopes will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
