Baseball Recap: Boca Ciega Comes Up Short

Boca Ciega easily dispatched Gibbs on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Boca Ciega fell just short of the Lakewood Spartans by a score of 8-6 on Wednesday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Jacob Thompson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Yirvin Medina Suarez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Elliot Doughty was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Boca Ciega's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Lakewood, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boca Ciega will take on Northeast at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lakewood, they will square off against Tarpon Springs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
