Football Recap: Oxford Takes a Loss

Oxford started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against St. Bernard's Central Catholic. They and the Bernardians were almost perfectly matched up on Thursday, but they suffered a 30-29 defeat. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Oxford's loss came despite strong showings from Jack Grenier and Savior Aiguier. Grenier rushed for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Aiguier rushed for 92 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. Grenier also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Pirates are 3-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise.

Oxford's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for St. Bernard's Central Catholic, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3.

Looking ahead, after both having extra time off, Oxford and Millbury will shake off the rust and duke it out at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th. As for St. Bernard's Central Catholic, they will look to defend their home field on the 26th against St. Paul at 6:00 p.m. The Bernardians will be up against the Knights' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.71 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
