Basketball Recap: Platteview Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Platteview has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a hard 61-44 fall against the Bennington Badgers on Friday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Badgers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Platteview's loss came despite strong showings from Elijah Steele and Owen Trofholz. Steele went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points, while Trofholz posted ten points and three blocks. Steele is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sully Vanosdall, who had five points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bennington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Blaize Jung, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. Gavin Olson was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Platteview's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3. As for Bennington, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Platteview and Bennington should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Platteview (ranked 39th) will meet Roncalli Catholic (ranked 126th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Platteview is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Bennington (ranked 35th) will meet Blair (ranked 178th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
