Softball Recap: Baker Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Spanish Fort

Baker faced Spanish Fort in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Hornets fell just short of the Toros by a score of 5-4. The Hornets just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Lauren Mordecai and Maddie Stuart did some serious damage despite the final result: Mordecai scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Stuart went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Stuart's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Boddie, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Baker's defeat dropped their record down to 20-11. As for Spanish Fort, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-6 record this season.

Baker will face off against Davidson at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Spanish Fort, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-7 win against Daphne on the 4th.
