Baseball Recap: Auburndale's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

Auburndale hadn't done well against Winter Haven recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Auburndale Bloodhounds walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Winter Haven Blue Devils. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bloodhounds as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Carter Brattlie made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Auburndale: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Thomas Pitard was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Caiden Whittenton, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Auburndale's victory bumped their record up to 4-11. As for Winter Haven, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Auburndale and Winter Haven could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Auburndale (ranked 446th) will meet Inspiration Academy (ranked 68th) at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Winter Haven will square off against Mulberry at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 189 places (285 vs. 96).
