Softball Recap: Wagener-Salley Wins Going Away Against North

Wagener-Salley never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the North Eagles. The result was nothing new for the War Eagles, who have now won three matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Makenley Walling made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ashley Nettles was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordi Wood, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Wagener-Salley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Wagener-Salley and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.0 runs over those games. As for North, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Wagener-Salley will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Airport at 6:00 p.m. on April 8. As for North, they will host Ridge Spring-Monetta at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
