Basketball Recap: Stoneman Douglas Comes Up Short

If Stoneman Douglas was riding high fresh off their 50-10 takedown of West Broward last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Stoneman Douglas Eagles fell to the Santaluces Chiefs 34-29. The Eagles lost against the Chiefs in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 68-34 score last time.

Leading Santaluces to victory were Lyiah Gaitor and Dezinae Colina. Gaitor posted seven points along with 14 rebounds and six blocks, while Colina put up nine points and three steals. That's the most rebounds Gaitor has posted since back in January.

Stoneman Douglas' loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Santaluces, their record is now 6-4.

Stoneman Douglas will venture away from home to face off against Pompano Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stoneman Douglas is facing Pompano Beach at the right time seeing as Pompano Beach is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Santaluces, they will host Forest at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Forest's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
