Cardinal Gibbons is 9-1 against Enloe since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Bridget Mazzo and Katie Scavone did some serious damage despite the final result: Mazzo went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Scavone went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Scavone launched this season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Cardinal Gibbons lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Enloe hadn't done well against Cardinal Gibbons recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Enloe walked away with a 7-2 victory over Cardinal Gibbons.
Avery Modlin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Haga, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Lilly Watson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Enloe pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.75 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Cardinal Gibbons hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Enloe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Cardinal Gibbons couldn't quite get it done against Enloe in their previous meeting on Tuesday as they fell 7-2. Can Cardinal Gibbons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
