Preview: Collinsville Kahoks vs. East St. Louis Flyers
Collinsville and East St. Louis are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Collinsville Kahoks will be playing at home against the East St. Louis Flyers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Collinsville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Collinsville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 20 points or more this season. They blew past Belleville West 62-42. With that victory, Collinsville brought their scoring average up to 51.2 points per game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Collinsville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Talesha Gilmore, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Gilmore has scored at least 25% of Collinsville's points. Another player making a difference was Ella Guererro, who scored 17 points along with 5 assists.
Meanwhile, East St. Louis' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Civic Memorial on the road and fell 74-24. While losing is never fun, East St. Louis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Civic Memorial is ranked 17th).
Collinsville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for East St. Louis, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Collinsville came up short against East St. Louis in their previous meeting back in January, falling 49-43. Thankfully for Collinsville, Shakara Mccline (who scored 20 points along with 5 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
