Softball Recap: Riverdale Country Takes a Loss

Riverdale Country extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They came up short against the Poly Prep Country Day Blue Devils, falling 15-5. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 12-0 to the Blue Devils when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Izzy Shin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Sammi Clyman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Poly Prep Country Day, the win (which was their sixth in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Poly Prep Country Day's side, Jordin Walker made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. Walker was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Emily Nunez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Gianna Denis, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Riverdale Country will challenge Trinity at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Poly Prep Country Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
