Softball Recap: Bryan Has No Trouble Against Evergreen

Bryan came out on top against Evergreen on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Golden Bears blew past the Vikings 10-0. The Golden Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Thea Staten made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryan let Reese Ruffer and Mylie Vollmer run wild. Ruffer went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Vollmer went 1-for-3 with one home run. Mariyah Graves also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Bryan hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

Bryan is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Evergreen, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Coming up, Bryan will take on Montpelier at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Bears are on a 15-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), the Locomotives a four-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. As for Evergreen, they will face off against Hicksville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
