Softball Game Preview: Augusta Panthers vs. Manchester Greyhounds

The Augusta Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Manchester Greyhounds at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Augusta comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Augusta fell victim to Bracken County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Polar Bears.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Manchester, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Clay 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Rylie Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elliana Applegate, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Mahayla Brown, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base.

Manchester's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Augusta, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Augusta might still be hurting after the 19-1 loss they got from Manchester in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
