Basketball Recap: Winston County Takes a Loss

Winston County was the 54-34 winner over Haleyville when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Winston County Yellowjackets took a blow against the Haleyville Lions on Thursday, falling 54-27. The match marked the Yellowjackets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Winston County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maci Blevins posted two points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Blevins a new career-high in rebounds.

With the defeat, Winston County broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-4. As for Haleyville, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winston County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sumiton Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Haleyville, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Covenant Christian at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
