Basketball Recap: Kouts Falls Despite Big Games from Ellie Nemeth and Bella Birky

Kouts suffered their biggest loss since December 12, 2023 on Friday. They came up short against the Rochester Zebras, falling 49-29. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs & Fillies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Zebras are ranked 88th).

Kouts' loss came despite strong showings from Bella Birky and Ellie Nemeth. Birky posted 12 points, while Nemeth had six points along with eight boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Kouts smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Rochester found their leader in sophomore Aubrey Wilson, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 18 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Clevenger, who put up 12 points.

Kouts' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Rochester, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Kouts will welcome Wheeler at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rochester, they will venture away from home to face off against Plymouth at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rochester is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
