Aptos has gone a perfect 5-0 against Pacific Grove recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Mariners will host the Breakers at 12:00 p.m.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Aptos and Santa Cruz, and Santa Cruz kept the tradition alive. The Mariners took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals on Friday.
Aptos saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Damien Espinoza, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Dom Castillo also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Pacific Grove not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 23, 2024. They put the hurt on Rancho San Juan with a sharp 11-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Breakers.
Issac Sanchez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Garry, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-5. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Stutzman, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Pacific Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Pacific Grove's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Aptos, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Everything went Aptos' way against Pacific Grove when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Aptos made off with a 17-7 win. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Breakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
