Softball Recap: Highland Finds Playoff Glory Versus Buckeye Valley

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Highland walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Buckeye Valley Barons on Wednesday, sneaking past 4-2. This was a revenge game for the Fighting Scots: when they faced off against the Barons back in April, they had to take a 10-8 loss.

Saylor Squires was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Squires was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kate Clements, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Dalaynie Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

The victory was the third in a row for Highland, bringing their record up to 14-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Buckeye Valley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-7.

Highland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-2 victory against London on the 15th. Buckeye Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
