Baseball Recap: Maryville Has No Trouble Against Lafayette

Maryville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Lafayette on Thursday. The Spoofhounds put the hurt on the Fighting Irish with a sharp 10-3 win. That seven run margin sets a new team best for the Spoofhounds this season.

The team relied heavily on Carson Hageman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Canon Creason was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Hageman wasn't the only one making solid contact: Maryville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lafayette only managed seven hits.

Maryville is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Maryville will be playing at home against East Buchanan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lafayette, they will head out to take on Cameron at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Fighting Irish will no doubt try to take advantage of.
