Basketball Recap: Athens Has No Trouble Against Olympia

After only 29 points in their last game, Athens made sure to put some points up on the board against Olympia on Tuesday. The Athens Warriors strolled past the Olympia Spartans with points to spare, taking the game 69-52. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 66-55 loss the last time these two teams met.

Athens found their leader in sophomore Sawyer Hill, who went 7-for-10 en route to 18 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Tobias, who posted 14 points.

Athens was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Athens and bumps their season record up to 14-16. As for Olympia, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-18.

Athens and Olympia could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Athens will take on Pleasant Plains at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 289 places (438 vs. 149). Meanwhile, Olympia (ranked 485th) will meet PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central (ranked 160th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
