Softball Recap: Dixie County Bears vs. Newberry Panthers

Dixie County had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-16 to make it four. They fell 9-5 to the Newberry Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in February.

Dixie County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hadlee Hines, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Newberry, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That somehow still isn't as good as their 17-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

On Newberry's side, Gracie Mattson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Mattson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Malana Kennard was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sarah Priester, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Dixie County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newberry, they will challenge Bradford at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tornadoes have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
