Baseball Recap: Gilbert Starts Season with Victory Against Saguaro

Gilbert had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Saguaro Sabercats a 4-0 shutout on Wednesday. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered an 11-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Gilbert got a great performance from Johhny King as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out six over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Gilbert's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Will Bates, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another was Hayden Leach, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Gilbert didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-2 defeat against St. Mary's on the 27th. As for Saguaro, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-4 win against O'Connor on the 27th.
