Basketball Recap: Cherryville Triumphs

Mountain Island Charter came into Wednesday's game looking for another win against Cherryville, but Raylei Gidney wouldn't allow it. The Cherryville Ironmen came out on top against the Mountain Island Charter Raptors by a score of 51-38 on Wednesday thanks in part to Gidney, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 26 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 15 or more in the last three games she's played.

Emily Allen was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in December of 2023.

Mountain Island Charter's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Genesis Cooke, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards, and Tarriah Washington, who posted 14 points.

Cherryville's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Mountain Island Charter, they moved to 4-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Cherryville will take on Shelby in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on December 20th. As for Mountain Island Charter, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-36 defeat against Community School of Davidson on the 13th.
