Softball Game Preview: St. Edward Green Wave vs. Aurora Christian Eagles

St. Edward has gone a perfect 4-0 against Aurora Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Green Wave will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Neither St. Edward nor Aurora Christian posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

St. Edward took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Wheaton Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Green Wave had just enough and edged out the Warriors 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Green Wave have posted since April 22nd.

Alaina Nolan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Nolan wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Gurley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, Aurora Christian lost 15-1 to Marian Central Catholic on Wednesday.

St. Edward is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Aurora Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.

Everything went St. Edward's way against Aurora Christian in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as St. Edward made off with a 16-9 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Green Wave since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
