Basketball Recap: Jackson Day's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Jackson Day waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took down the Greensboro Day School Bengals 57-43. The win was all the more spectacular given the Mariners' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Bengals are ranked 36th).

Jackson Day's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Courtney Ashford, who went 8 of 15 en route to 24 points. With that strong performance, Ashford is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. Tralyn Phillips was another key player, going 5 for 9 on her way to 12 points and six steals.

Jackson Day is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Greensboro Day School, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-7 record.

Jackson Day will face off against Ridge View at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Ridge View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Jackson Day likes a good challenge. As for Greensboro Day School, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Miller School of Albemarle at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
