Baseball Recap: Nucla Comes Up Short

After flying high against La Veta on Friday, Nucla came back down to earth. The Mustangs came up short against the Ignacio Bobcats on Tuesday, falling 16-7. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Bobcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Brycen Rummel put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Rummel wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson McCabe, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. McCabe has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Nucla's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Ignacio, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

While Nucla had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
